Board Academy

Training Goal:

The Board Academy is designed to train participants to be effective board members of a non-profit organization.


JLSD’s Board Academy trains current and future community members on how to become effective leaders of a nonprofit Board of Directors.  Local non-profit experts will provide training on board roles and responsibilities, developing strategic plans, measuring impact, monitoring financial status, understanding your role in public policy, and learning how to engage the community as a Board member.  Members will graduate from the series with an understanding of how a nonprofit organization operates effectively and will be confident in the knowledge and skills to become active, productive Board members who engage with competence and confidence.  Local presenters will teach using interactive and engaging lectures, case studies and group exercises.


  • There will be a total of 8 sessions, with each session 2-2.5 hrs. in length.  

  • *To receive the official Board Academy completion certificate, you must attend at least 6 of 8 trainings. 



  • Either JLSD House or USD, depending on the number of attendees.

Continuing Education Credit

  • Not for this year, but maybe 2018.
