JLSD Advocacy Statement

The Junior League of San Diego is committed to serving the needs of women and youth in the San Diego community through effective legislative and community advocacy efforts.  We take action on state issues that affect our projects and focus areas while focusing on the communities we directly serve. Relating to such issues, we educate our members and the San Diego community while fostering collaboration and communication with community partners.

JLSD Policy Agenda

The Junior League of San Diego represents its members in the state public policy arena, with emphasis on efforts to do the following:
1) assist legislative and other government or private bodies in the development of laws and policies affecting transition age foster youth.
2) promote accessibility to affordable and stable housing to San Diego’s transition age foster youth.
3) support public policy that protects victims of human trafficking.
4) collaborate with and support community partners that work to provide services to victims of human trafficking and transition age foster youth.

Crucial to our advocacy efforts, JLSD is a member of the Junior Leagues of California State Public Affairs Committee (SPAC). SPAC is a non-partisan education and advocacy organization, composed of two delegates from 17 member Junior Leagues throughout the state.

The State Public Affairs Committee

The State Public Affairs Committee works in conjunction with the Junior Leagues of California State Public Affairs Committee to advocate for legislation on the state level, and sends delegates to Sacramento and Washington D.C. to support bills on numerous issues affecting women, children, and other minority groups. League representatives also serve on local task forces and represent JLSD throughout San Diego County in various capacities. The State Public Affairs Committee educates JLSD members on selected issues and provides advocacy training and skill building in conjunction with the Advocacy Committee.
